Hippocratic Corpus

March 22, 2013

There are only a few texts that have traditionally been linked with Hippocrates (Epidemics 1 and 3 being an example). However, no text can with absolute certainty be attributed to him; as there is no firm evidence to support any conclusion. Those undertaking research into this area make assertions based on what texts discuss. Epidemics 1 and 3 are a form of training journal and were written during the period that Hippocrates is believed to have been active. This forms the basis on which these texts are attributed to him. However, whilst I believe that no text in the corpus can be truly attributed to Hippocrates it is likely that work that was undertaken by him has been incorporated into a number of the texts and refined over time. Therefore, some traditional Hippocratic theories exist within the texts.
